U2 W2 pre-tutorial

The iteration upon the small clip produced last week focuses more on personal engagement – especially when the collection of materials have such a strong personal connection.

Brief: explore this personal collection of materials through making new things out of them

The image itself comes from Jan 01, 2019, during a family dayout driving through the cold, blustery, snowy Orc Mountains of Eastern Germany, with brief intervals of serene weather. I gathered all the snippets from that day, and started iterating on my thoughts over the memories.

The free writing experience had led me from a personal sanctuary to advocation in the public realm (details of the experience > what should be practiced collectively for a good life), probably worthwhile to look back at when considering my position in GCD.

The following actions taken were guided by the general rule of exploring and interrogating the meta information embedded in these visual and audio snippets – such as my memories and past experience are kept safe and restrained within these pixels.

The audio is also an interesting aspect – independent from the visual dimension, but equally – if not more – expressive and intimate as the visual footages, therefore I started composing with these audio footages. (note: the audio composition I used for the delivered moving image piece included footages from my entire collection, not just from Jan 01, 2019.)

To be honest, this week’s iteration is very expansive, very much all over the places. The attempt to put them together for some deliverable seems contradictory to the principle of iterative practice.
